Best NRFI/YRFI Bets

One of the most popular bets that really started to gain steam last season was the "no run first inning" (NRFI) and "yes run first inning" (YRFI) bets. Essentially, we are betting on whether a run will be scored or not in the first inning of a game.

With its growth in popularity, we decided to get in on the action and try our hand at them last season with our own article. We had a pretty good year, which is difficult to do with these bets, to be honest, so my hope is that we can continue cashing these at a decent rate to stay in the green.

When I do these, I like to apply my handicapping of the pitchers and their matchups, and then bet on the guys that I think are set up for success the most. If I find a matchup where I like both pitchers, that will make my NRFI picks; of course the opposite applies when I think both guys will struggle.

The problem with these bets are that they are very random and, statistically, runs are more likely in the first inning then in the second. This can make them tricky to bet, which is why I often say to only place a half-unit or quarter unit on them. Still, they are certainly fun to root for, and who doesn't love a fun bet with low risk?
