Braves at Astros YRFI (-120, Caesars)

The Braves and Astros have both hit YRFI more times than not this season. Also, both have pitchers who could run into some early trouble. While Max Fried is coming off a solid outing, it came against the Marlins. Before that, he got hammered by both the Phillies and D’Backs, especially in the first inning. It’s fair to be skeptical against a Houston lineup that has struggled lately but is undoubtedly talented. Jose Altuve is off to a good start as a table-setter at the top of the order while Kyle Tucker and Yordan Alvarez have crushed lefties this year, so don’t be surprised if the Astros snap out of their slump in the first inning on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, with Ronald Acuna Jr. leading off the Braves are always a threat to score in the first inning despite unimpressive numbers in that area thus far. Facing J.P. France and his 8.22 ERA should help. Oddly enough, France has pitched a scoreless first inning in all three starts before getting into trouble. However, Acuna and Michael Harris give the Braves plenty of speed to set up Austin Riley and Matt Olson. Given France’s struggles this year, that quartet has a chance to do some damage in the first inning.

Rockies at Phillies YRFI (-115, DraftKings)

In all three of his starts this season, Colorado’s Ryan Feltner has allowed at least one first-inning run. Admittedly, that trend is unlikely to last all season, but we have to keep targeting the Rockies, who had had first-inning runs scored in 14 of their 18 games this season. Plus, Feltner has troubling numbers against some of the Philly hitters he’s likely to face in the opening inning. Bryce Harper, J.T. Realmuto, and Nick Castellanos have owned him, albeit in a small sample size, which should increase the chances that the Phillies score early runs.

Of course, if the Phillies don't score in the first inning, there is some risk to this bet. Philly starter Cristopher Sanchez had a respectable 3.00 ERA in the first inning last season. The lefty is also off to a promising start this season and facing a Colorado lineup that has scored just one run in its last three games. But given Feltner’s struggles early in games and the firepower at the top of the Philadelphia lineup, we still feel good about a YRFI bet in this game.
