March Madness Expert Picks: Elite Eight Underdog
Dan Karpuc: San Diego State +115 ML vs. Creighton (BetMGM)
San Diego State (29-6 SU, 18-16-1 ATS, 14-21 O/U) and Creighton (23-12 SU, 19-17 ATS, 17-18 O/U) will square off in the first Elite 8 game on Sunday. The Aztecs earned their way here with wins over Charleston, Furman and No. 1 overall seed Alabama while the Bluejays beat NC State, Baylor and Princeton.
Both teams have some dominant historical betting trends on their side. San Diego State has gone an undefeated 11-0 ATS against the last 11 teams they’ve played who make eight or more threes on average. They’ve also gone 18-2 SU against teams who attempt 21 or more threes per contest. Meanwhile, Creighton has gone 9-1 SU (83.5% ROI) in neutral court games with a total between 130 and 139.5 under coach Greg McDermott and has also gone 118-76 ATS 1H after a double-digit point victory under their head coach.
I love Creighton, but I love an undefeated trend more. Since the Aztecs have thrived against teams that have success from beyond the arc, have the nation’s fourth-best defense in terms of KenPom’s Adjusted Defensive Efficiency metric and just knocked off the No. 1 overall seed Alabama, I’m going to back them to win this game and therefore also cover as the underdog.

Dan Karpuc: Miami G Isaiah Wong Over 15.5 Points vs. Texas (-115, DraftKings)
With 27 and then 20 points in his last two games, Wong has helped lead Miami to victories and the formula should be exactly the same in this matchup against the Longhorns. The volume will be there and despite Texas' defensive abilities, I think there's a lot of upside for Wong in the scoring column at this number.
