My Best Bet: Vikings -110 ML

Sure, Kirk Cousins may be gone, Sam Darnold may be in and the Vikings likely won’t be a playoff team this year, but we’re only considering this Week 1 matchup against Daniel Jones and the Giants. I suspect that New York is going to have a very hard time moving the football offensively and this is the perfect matchup if you’re a Jones doubter.

Giants QB’s were sacked 85 times last season, most in the NFL. While the team tried to make some improvements there in the offseason, the unit has been awful for many years in a row at this point, so they’ll need to prove they turned the corner before I have any confidence in them. They’ll get an instant test against this uber-aggressive Vikings defense. The Vikings defense blitzed on 28% of plays last season (highest in NFL; League Avg: 15%), blitzed on 28% of plays on Early Downs last season (highest in NFL; League Avg: 13%) and overall, they blitzed 309 times (most in NFL). We’ve seen what happens when Jones is pressured and it’s very rarely a positive for the G-Men. Give me the Vikings to win what could be a gross, low-scoring affair on the road.
